Site is situated on an abandoned goldmine with a light slope (5˚ falling towards S) approx. 5km from the Kaw Mountain Camp. Young secondary rainforest. Diameter of trees ranges from 10-80 cm, with approx. 6-7 trees with a diameter >50cm per 1ha. Dense canopy of shrubs, almost no lianas and epiphytes (<5%). No big pieces of deadwood. Tree-canopy cover is 30-50% with larger open, grassy areas in between. Surrounding area is covered by slightly used primary rainforest on mountainous relief. Litter layer was 1-3cm but no humus layer present. Soil-layer is very stony and rich in clay. Site has been clearcut about 5-10 years ago in order to use it as goldmine. In fact area hasn´t been used though for gold-mining. |
