City of Sevastopol, right side of the Sarandinakina Balka valley (middle course), distance between plots ca 300m. Steppe communities dominated by Stipa capillata, Festuca valesiaca, Agropyron ponticum (Festuco-Brometea), 70-80% of plant covering, soil could be traditionally claasified as rendzina but looks more as koastanozem (following WBR), site is an open subhorizontal watershed surface on right side of the Sarandinakina Balka valley. Plot 1 is situated closer to the edge of valley escarp; gentle (3-5°) west-faced slope with rare outcrops of parent limestone; vegetation could be classified as dry petrophytic steppe. Dominant species: Agropyron ponticum, Festuca valesiaca, Stipa capillata, Poterium sanguisorba. Some groups of Jasminum fruticans. Solitary young trees of Quercus pubescens on plot edges. Other remarkable species include Rosa sp., Iberis taurica, Iris pumila, annual Alyssum sp., and dwarf Tragopogon sp. The plot was partly allocated for futher development (i. e. construction of residental houses). Few years ago a small ditch (ca 0.1m wide) was made to show the border of the construction area, but no development started after that. Soil was sampled from undisturbed parts of the plot. |
