City of Sevastopol, right side of the Sarandinakina Balka valley (middle course), distance between plots ca 300m. Steppe communities dominated by Stipa capillata, Festuca valesiaca, Agropyron ponticum (Festuco-Brometea), 70-80% of plant covering, soil could be traditionally claasified as rendzina but looks more as koastanozem (following WBR), site is an open subhorizontal watershed surface on right side of the Sarandinakina Balka valley. Plot 2 is situated ca 0.4 km away from the edge of the valley escarp; gentle (2-3°) north-faced slope of the watershed surface with close proximity of parent limestone (but no outcrops); vegetation could be classified as dry petrophytic steppe. Dominants: Stipa capillata, Festuca valesiaca, Stipa lessingiana, Agropyron ponticum. No bushes and trees. Other remarkable species include Iris pumila and annual Alyssum sp. the plot is situated along rarely used footpath. Probably, it is used sometimes for off-road motorbiking. |
