Upper grassland. It is located 14 km North of the City of Kamloops. The site is described locally as an upper grassland community, dominated by bunchgrasses and many other native grass and forb species. Compared to lower grasslands, upper grasslands are cooler and receive more precipitation throughout the growing season. Throughout the upper grasslands, there are patches of invasive species that have a detrimental effect on the native plant community. These areas are cattle grazed on an annual rotation schedule. No bare ground, scattered cow scat, layers of various grass species. Dominant plant: Festuca campestris, other relevant plant: Stipa richardsonii. This plot is within a protected area where cattle grazing occurs on an annual basis for approximately 3 weeks. The plot is approximately 200 m from a dirt road. Rolling hills surround this plot, ant there is no source of shade here. |
