North East Siberia, Putorana Plateau, Southern shore of Sobach’e Lake near Nakhta Creek mouth, lower altitudinal belt. Crooked birch forest with larch & spruce
Tree canopy cover ~ 40%. Tree height 20 m. Forest composition: Betula tortuosa – ca. 70%, Larix sibirica ca. 30%, Picea obovata - rare; Shrubs: Salix glauca, S. phylicifolia, Rosa acicularis; Herb and dwarf shrub cover 60%, Bryophytes 80%. Gentle slope with poorly developed microrelief, mesic conditions. Wery thick litter/turfcover, composed of live and partly decomposed mosses and vascular plants, ca. 20 cm. Dwarf-shrubs and herbs: Empetrum subholarcticum (main dominant), Vaccinium vitis-idaea, V. myrtillus, V. uliginosum, Rubus arcticus, Trientalis europaea, Carex sabinensis, Lycopodium dubium,etc.
Mosses: Pleurozium schreberi, Polytrichum commune, P. strictum, Hylocomium splendens, Dicranum flexicaule, Aulacomnium palustre, Ptilidium ciliare. Nearly absent, the area is being protected in Putorana State Reserve |
