Site is situated on a surface with steep slope (falling towards NW) approx. 1km east from the Kaw Mountain camp and approx. 200m from the forest track. Young secondary rainforest with two layers. All trees of the first layer have a diameter of less than 80cm, 80% most of them a diameter of less than 50 cm. Tree-canopy cover is 75-80%. Surrounding area is covered by slightly used primary rainforest on mountainous relief. Litter layer is 1-3cm thick, humus layer is not present. Soil-layer is stony and rich in clay. Cut and burned in small scale in 2007 and afterwards extensively used to grow tropical fruits. Now already totally overgrown again. Only small open, grassy patches present. |
