Site is situated on a slight slope (10˚ falling towards SE) approx. 1.5km from the Kaw Mountain Camp. Old primary rain forest with three layers. Diameter of trees ranges from 10-300 cm, with approx. 6-7 trees with a diameter >150cm per 1ha. Dense canopy of epiphytes and lianas. Presence of big pieces of deadwood (mostly lying). Tree-canopy cover is 90-100%. Surrounding area is covered by slightly used primary rainforest on mountainous relief. Litter layer was 3-5cm but no humus layer present. Soil-layer is rich in clay. No signs of recent usage. |
