Site is situated on a slope (25˚ falling towards W). Approx. 2km east from the “Le Dégrad Saint Antoine”, which is a small indigenous village directly situated at the banks of river Orapu. Moist conditions as creeks are flowing not far from the plot (200m) at the foot of the slope. Old primary rain forest with three layers. Diameter of trees ranges from 10-350 cm, with approx. 5-8 trees with a diameter >150cm per 1ha. Dense canopy of epiphytes and lianas. Presence of many big pieces of deadwood (mostly lying). Tree-canopy cover is 90-100%. Surrounding area is covered by plantations and primary rainforest on hilly relief. Partially (at tree trunks) thick litter layer (5cm) but no humus layer present. Soil-layer is stony and rich in clay. No signs of actual usage. |
