The soil was very wet and no grazing animals were present at this site. Grazers come to this site for only about one month, generally sometime during the period between August through October (depending on rain patterns). Six experimental plots (4 m x 4 m) were established at each site in 1999. Three randomly selected plots were enclosed by 1.5 m tall chain link fences that eliminated grazing by herbivores larger than 0.1 kg. Grasses both inside and outside the fences were ~70 cm tall. Fences were on plots 1, 4, 6. |
